Roles & Objectives

 

As an intern in the Testing Technology Department at Philip Morris Manufacturing & Technology Bologna S.p.A., you will report to the Sr. Engineer Testing Technology and be based in Zola Predosa (BO). In this role, you will join the Team, supporting scientists, laboratories, and manufacturing teams in evaluating and implementing new testing technologies for quality control. Your responsibilities will include setting up test environments, defining design of experiments (DOE), conducting tests, collecting and analyzing data, and generating meaningful reports to drive product and process improvements.

 

Specific Responsibilities: 

 

  • Define and set up test environments, fixtures, and equipment for new testing technologies;

  • Design and plan experiments (DOE) to evaluate testing methods and quality control parameters;

  • Conduct laboratory tests and trials following established protocols and safety guidelines;

  • Collect, organize, and manage test data from various sources ensuring data integrity and traceability;

  • Analyze test results using statistical tools and methods to extract meaningful insights;

  • Generate comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations;

  • Present results and takeaways to cross-functional teams and stakeholders;

  • Collaborate with scientists, lab analysts, and manufacturing teams to integrate new testing technologies into existing workflows;

  • Support the continuous improvement of testing methodologies and quality control processes;

  • Document test procedures, results, and lessons learned in accordance with internal quality standards. 

 

Who we’re looking for  

 

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, Automation, Mechatronics) or related STEM fields;

  • Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis methods;

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, Excel, Minitab, or equivalent);

  • Experience or strong interest in laboratory testing and quality control processes;

  • Proficiency in Office Suite. 

  • Proficiency in English; fluency in Italian is a plus;

  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and engage with internal stakeholders;

  • High analytical skills, excellent communication, and problem-solving abilities;

  • Hands-on attitude and willingness to work in a laboratory environment;

  • Critical thinking and out-of-the-box thinking. Knowledge and previous experience with rapid prototyping tools and techniques (e.g., 3D printing) is highly desirable.
