Be a part of a revolutionary change!

At Philip Morris International (PMI), we’ve chosen to do something incredible. We’re totally transforming our business and building our future on one clear purpose – to deliver a smoke-free future.

With huge change, comes huge opportunity. So, if you join us, you’ll enjoy the freedom to dream up and deliver better, brighter solutions and the space to move your career forward in endlessly different directions. Our success depends on people who are committed to our purpose and have an appetite for progress.

Purpose:

Assist in leading PMI’s Illicit Trade Prevention’s (ITP) policy & external engagement function in the fight against illicit trade, specifically in the United States, to safeguard the Company’s reputation by ensuring that our products are not diverted into illicit channels, to protect the Company’s business and the value of our brands against counterfeiting and unfair competition, and to contribute to positioning the Company as a credible partner for U.S. law enforcement and government authorities, and, beyond, as a reputable Company with our legal-age consumers and the broader society.

Your ‘day to day’:

  • Strategy: contribute to setting and executing the policy and external engagement strategy for ITP in the U.S., in full alignment with the broader ITP objectives globally and in the U.S., the External Affairs (EA) advocacy objectives, and the business objectives of the Regional President and the U.S. management team. Further, ensure alignment with the priorities of the Law & Compliance and the federal & state External Affairs (EA) teams, all with a full understanding of the legal, political, and operational environment of the entire illicit trade value chain.
  • Manage ITP external engagements that support the protection of PMI’s brand value, commercial portfolio, and business interests especially in efforts aimed at minimizing illicit trade in SFPs in the U.S. Contribute to U.S. stakeholder engagements, in collaboration with EA, Scientific Engagement, Regulatory Engagement and other relevant teams, that focus on tackling the illicit trade issues faced by PMI in the U.S. Such activities will focus on the analysis and crafting of relevant policies, and promoting regulatory frameworks that will enhance the fight against the production, supply and distribution of counterfeit PMI brands, the diversion of genuine PMI brands from their intended market of retail sale, and targeted actions against networks facilitating the illegal sale and distribution of non-PMI brands threatening the integrity of PMI’s business, products and/or categories.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with relevant external stakeholders, so as to mobilize them in the fight against illicit trade, promoting policy strategies that deter illicit activities involving nicotine-containing products, in line with our focus on a smoke-free vision, and address identified and emerging threats to the integrity of our SFP products and of their respective categories in the U.S.
  • When required, act as a spokesperson for PMI U.S. on illicit trade matters.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders, such as academia, third-party consultants, competitors, industry associations, anti-counterfeiting/piracy groups and other brand owners to advance PMI’s anti-illicit trade objectives and strategies. Further strengthen PMI’s position as a leading company in the fight against illicit trade and its derived crimes, thereby fostering PMI’s credibility and reputation and positioning PMI as a credible partner for governments, the business community and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing, leading and managing ITP’s advocacy and communications program in the U.S. in line with the ITP Roadmap and strategic objectives, federal and state EA objectives and strategies, and assist in promoting regulatory frameworks that enhance enforcement and deterrence against illicit trade perpetrators at the federal level and in priority states.
  • Manage PMI ITP owned external advocacy events and PMI representation to third-party events with the objective of raising awareness on the negative consequences of illicit trade and promoting effective policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Generate and ensure consistent external messaging and substantiated narratives are used by PMI U.S. representatives.
  • Own the ITP internal reporting mechanisms (e.g., monthly Flash update), highlighting the ITP team’s efforts to protect the brand and fight illicit products.
  • Assist in leading and executing events for the USA-IT coalition while owning efforts to expand the number of named partners/members of the coalition.

Since 2008, PMI has invested $12.5 billion globally to develop, scientifically substantiate and commercialize innovative smoke-free products for adults who would otherwise continue to smoke with the goal of transitioning legal-age consumers who smoke to better alternatives. In 2022, PMI acquired Swedish Match – a leader in oral nicotine delivery – creating a global smoke-free champion led by the IQOS and ZYN brands. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized versions of PMI’s IQOS electronically heated tobacco devices and Swedish Match’s General snus as Modified Risk Tobacco Products and renewal applications for these products are presently pending before the FDA.
