The Role
Leads engagement with third-party stakeholders such as industry peers, academia, scientific community, media, and policy influencers to advance understanding and credibility of tobacco harm reduction (THR). This role works closely with Science, Communications, and External Affairs teams to translate science-based narratives into third-party advocacy, research, publications, and policy inputs that can be activated during regulatory and policy debates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
1. Develop a holistic third-party engagement strategy, mid-to-long term roadmap, and short-term action plans to support PMI/PMJ regulatory and policy objectives related to tobacco harm reduction.
2. Identify, map, and prioritize third-party stakeholders including industry associations, academia, researchers, think tanks, NGOs (where appropriate), and media.
3. Build and maintain trusted relationships with third-party stakeholders, enabling them to independently understand, assess, and communicate science-based THR perspectives.
4. Work closely with Science and Corporate Communications teams to support generation of third-party outputs such as articles, opinion pieces, research collaborations, events, and policy recommendations.
5. Facilitate platforms (roundtables, seminars, workshops) that stimulate informed discussion on harm reduction and regulatory frameworks.
6. Ensure third-party voices, insights, and evidence are strategically leveraged in regulatory and policy discussions at national and local levels.
7. Continuously monitor public discourse, academic trends, and media narratives related to tobacco harm reduction and provide strategic insights to management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience engaging with academia, industry bodies, media, or public policy forums
- Understanding of legal framework and politics of Japanese governments
- Strong business acumen with strategic and logical thinking, and highly effective analytic skills are required.
- Must have excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written) with the ability to effectively present ideas, and influence and negotiate with others.
- Graduate and/or undergraduate degree
- Native in Japanese and business level English communications
