Your Day-to-Day
You will work as a 12-month fixed-term contractor supporting Philip Morris Electronics Shenzhen Office (PMES), a subsidiary of Philip Morris International, Inc. You may be engaged by a third-party service provider and assigned to work at PMES. You will lead end-to-end industrialization of mechanical components and sub-assemblies - from concept and tooling development through qualification, capacity ramp-up, and sustainable mass production.
Key Responsibilities
Industrialization Ownership
• Lead end-to-end industrialization of mechanical components and sub-assemblies from concept development through mass-production readiness.
• Drive manufacturing readiness across tooling, processes, equipment, automation, quality, capacity, and supply-chain execution.
• Act as the industrialization focal point across Design, Quality, Procurement, Operations, and external manufacturing partners.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
• Lead industrialization activities through EVT, DVT, PVT, pilot runs, and mass-production phases.
• Drive closure of manufacturing issues and ensure lessons learned are incorporated into subsequent builds and future programs.
• Support design reviews and provide DFM and risk-assessment recommendations to improve manufacturability, quality, cost, and delivery.
Tooling and Manufacturing Development
• Drive tooling development for plastic, metal, and cosmetic components to meet design, quality, manufacturing, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Develop and qualify manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, plastic injection molding, metal injection molding (MIM), die casting, stamping, forging, bonding, laser processes, surface treatments, and automated or semi-automated assembly.
• Collaborate with suppliers to optimize tooling concepts, tool design, process parameters, equipment selection, cycle time, and production efficiency.
• Manage tooling project timing, including first-shot, engineering changes, copy-tool development, qualification, and production release.
Supplier Industrialization and Qualification
• Assess supplier readiness covering tooling, equipment, process capability, capacity, automation, quality systems, manpower, and manufacturing scalability.
• Lead supplier technical reviews, qualification activities, production-readiness assessments, and on-site issue resolution.
• Drive corrective and preventive actions with clear owners, timing, evidence, and effectiveness verification.
Qualification and Validation
• Lead tool and process qualification activities, including IQ/OQ/PQ or equivalent validation, PPAP, DOE, MSA/GR&R, SPC, and Cp/Cpk capability studies.
• Support product verification, validation, and manufacturing qualification activities, ensuring objective evidence is available before production release.
Capacity Planning and Ramp-Up
• Drive capacity planning, equipment and automation qualification, line-readiness reviews, and production ramp-up strategies against project demand.
• Ensure tooling, equipment, process, workforce, and supplier readiness support volume requirements and business continuity.
• Define sustainable manufacturing strategies for yield, throughput, maintenance, copy capacity, and long-term supply assurance.
Risk Management and Continuous Improvement
• Identify, assess, and mitigate industrialization risks related to manufacturability, quality, yield, capacity, cost, supply continuity, and project schedule.
• Escalate critical risks with fact-based impact assessments, recovery plans, accountable owners, and target dates.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve process capability, first-pass yield, OEE, automation efficiency, throughput, and manufacturing cost.
Compliance
• Ensure compliance with PMI policies, industry regulations, and applicable laws.
• Safeguard confidential information and promote compliance among external partners and suppliers.
Who We Are Looking For
Education
• Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
• Minimum 10 years of experience in industrialization, manufacturing engineering, tooling engineering, NPI engineering, mechanical engineering, or product development within consumer electronics or another high-volume manufacturing industry.
• Proven experience leading complex industrialization projects from concept through mass production, with multiple suppliers and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience working with and managing external development, tooling, equipment, and manufacturing partners.
Technical Competencies
• Strong knowledge of plastic injection molding, MIM, die casting, stamping, forging, CNC machining, cosmetic and functional surface treatments, and automated assembly systems.
• Hands-on experience in DFM, DFMEA, Mold Flow Analysis, PPAP, DOE, SPC, MSA/GR&R, Cp/Cpk analysis, process validation, and production-readiness reviews.
• Experience with equipment qualification, automation development, and high-volume manufacturing ramp-up is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in CAD and engineering simulation tools, preferably SolidWorks.

• Tier-2 mechanical components and sub-assemblies are industrialized from concept through mass production with robust, scalable processes.
• Supplier, tooling, equipment, process, quality, and capacity readiness support EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass-production milestones.
• Industrialization risks are identified early, escalated clearly, and closed with verified corrective actions.
• Manufacturing solutions consistently achieve agreed quality, yield, capacity, cost, and schedule targets.
