Your ‘day to day’
You will be employed under Philip Morris Electronics Shenzhen (PMES). PMES operates as a subsidiary of Philip Morris International, Inc.
As the Senior Engineer in Printing & Converting for Smoke-Free Products (SFP), you will be a vital member of our team, leading all stages of Print & Converting (P&C) development. This includes planning, risk mitigation, and providing accurate information and technical insights to teams to ensure optimal decision-making and delivery.
You will achieve brand design intent and cost efficiency by applying your high level of technical expertise in the design, development, and implementation of complex packaging.
By managing relationships with suppliers and Original Design Manufacturers (ODM) for printed color and material development and qualification, you will be highly involved in the department’s strategies for innovation, sustainability, and productivity in packaging print, ensuring performance, quality, and compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Support the "360-degree" graphics and finish technology assessment as part of new packaging development programs, focusing on material, decoration, and coloring.
- Contribute to packaging equipment specifications to ensure full integration of graphical and finish elements within machine operating ranges and material specifications.
- Ensure key technical assets are available at critical milestones to enable executional readiness and seamless transition to the deployment phase, including Good to Design file, Master Printing Report, input into design master file, and Master Color Standard.
- Partner with packaging deployment at relevant stages of the development process to ensure seamless executional and specification readiness and the availability of appropriate quality standards.
- Work with the procurement team for vendor selection and provide expert resources on vendor capabilities.
- Attend key print trials at vendors and support the packaging deployment team during the first commercial print run of packaging assets.
- Play a key role in strategic company programs to improve executional readiness, simplification, speed to market, compliance and control procedures, and the quality of printed packaging components.
- Act as a key expert resource on regulatory and compliance requirements from a global standpoint as they relate to printed components.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced studies in engineering, printing, converting, material science, or a related field.
- Strong track record and experience in Offset printing, including color management, pre-press processes, and solving on-press issues, as well as lithography, flexography, and digital Offset printing.
- Proficient and broad knowledge of packaging materials, inks, print decoration, and finishing technologies, with a strong emphasis on Offset printing techniques.
- Extensive knowledge of color management techniques, including ICC profiling, color calibration, and color consistency across different substrates and printing conditions.
- Strong expertise in pre-press processes, with a good understanding of file preparation, proofing, plate making, and solving pre-press issues.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence credibly across all levels of the organization and with suppliers.
- Strong risk assessment and problem-solving capabilities coupled with leadership skills.
- Quick learner with a pragmatic, analytical, and autonomous mindset.
- Computer skills/Software: Adobe Suite, Product Lifecycle Management tools, MS Office, CAD.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin; proficiency in Cantonese is a plus.
