Your ‘day to day’
You will be employed under Philip Morris Electronics Shenzhen (PMES), a subsidiary of Philip Morris International, Inc.
As the Manager, CMF Engineering, you will lead the short- and long-term development of Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) technologies for PMI’s electronic devices and accessories. You will drive innovation, manage advanced surface treatment technologies, and ensure the successful implementation and industrialization of CMF strategies across our product portfolio.
Collaborate with various teams (e.g., Industrial Design, Product Marketing, Mechanical Engineering, Quality) to develop CMF solutions in line with tech, trends, and sustainability.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver technical expertise in Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) development to support innovation and sustainability roadmaps for Reduced-Risk Products (RRPs). Translate consumer lifestyle trends into compelling CMF strategies, supported by artwork and material samples that bring your vision to life.
- Lead and manage the CMF technology portfolio for RRP devices and accessories, ensuring alignment with product development goals and brand identity.
- Collaborate closely with product development teams to ensure CMF requirements are coordinated from concept through production, delivering products that meet the highest standards of design and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with Product Marketing, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Quality, and Industrialization teams to complete CMF engineering design, including DFM, GD&T, SPC, DOE, and qualification trials.
- Apply technical creativity during the early phases of product concept development. Work across fields to synthesize data and present ideas that influence design direction and feasibility.
- Conduct technical reviews and provide expert input on a wide range of CMF technologies, including paint materials, surface finishing, corrosion resistance, UV protection, anodizing, PVD, and plating.
- Coordinate the creation of detailed CMF designs and technical specifications. Lead all aspects of validation testing in collaboration with internal teams and external partners to ensure performance and durability.
- Establish and uphold positive relationships with external development and manufacturing partners, ensuring alignment with PMI's quality, innovation, and compliance standards.
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced surface treatment technologies. Define process requirements and ensure readiness for both new and existing product lines.
- Stay ahead of emerging CMF trends and technologies. Identify and champion new opportunities to integrate advanced CMF solutions into product development.
- Lead CMF innovation projects that promote diversity, inclusivity, sustainability, and customization. Foster a culture of experimentation and creativity to deliver meaningful, consumer-centric design solutions
Who we’re looking for:
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering, or Industrial Design, or equivalent experience. Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in CMF or product design/engineering within the consumer electronics industry.
- Proven experience in managing product development and cross-functional teams in a global, multicultural environment.
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing and decoration processes for plastics, metals, ceramics, leathers, and textiles.
- Strong understanding of CMF-related reliability testing and problem-solving for test failures.
- Excellent communication skills in English; Mandarin is a strong plus.
- Creative, structured, and data-driven mindset with a passion for innovation and collaboration.
