Position Overview
Title: Senior Manager Strategy & Program Delivery
Organization: PMI Region 1, Strategy & Program Delivery (S&PD) Team
Location: Hong Kong
Reports to: Vice President, S&PD
Purpose of the Role
As a critical member of the Strategy team, this person will support the President and VP S&PD of Region 1 in setting the ambition and strategy of the Region, as well as defining the required strategic moves for achieving it. Therefore, he/she will have an active role in the strategic planning process, Long-Range Plan (LRP) ambition setting, and guiding the Region’s Leadership Team on prioritizing key strategic questions to solve for.
Specifically, and on a day-to-day basis, this person will lead the articulation, planning, and execution of the most critical strategic initiatives for the Region, to support the delivery of the Region’s ambition set for the LRP period. Also, once these critically important projects are implemented, this role will be responsible for tracking the resulting benefits, disseminating the learnings, and scaling-up similar programs across Region’s markets to multiply the impact.
Core Accountabilities & Activities
- Support the strategy and LRP development for the Region. Work in collaboration with other members of the S&PD and Finance teams while long-range ambition is being defined and strategy is being developed to deliver this ambition.
- Lead/support the design, planning, and execution of the most critical initiatives of the Region, including PMI’s future business model: Undertake strategic studies that
- analyzes the latest market context, macro trends, current and potential cooperation model, and growth drivers;
- develops and executes with market team a well-designed project plan, including negotiation strategy and stakeholders management with the state monopoly and
- ultimately delivers tangible results that enable the achievement of a market’s mid-to long-term ambition.
- Drive the dissemination of learnings and scaling-up of efforts across the Region: Develop toolboxes (i.e., NRM Toolbox) that codify learnings and commercial approaches that deliver tangible benefits. Then, scale-up initiatives across multiple markets or in the entire Region to multiply the effect of achieved benefits in a given market.
- Develop market-level subject matter experts on critical topics who can support the Regional team in future implementations: Identify and train market-level counterparts so that they become the go-to persons for designing and executing strategic initiatives. The aim of creating this core cadre of subject matter experts is to deploy them for strategic initiatives in other markets and ensure knowledge retention at the market-level.
- Support the collection, analysis, and insight generation from competitive intelligence: As part of the articulation of which strategic initiatives should be undertaken, work in collaboration with the Regional S&PD team and central Competitive Intelligence team to understand the competitive environment and drive insights that help define which risks needs to be mitigated and which opportunities should be prioritized.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business, Management, Marketing, Engineering or Finance related fields.
- 10 years of experience, ideally with an early grounding in a top strategy consultancy in Consumer Goods, Consumer Electronics, Pharmaceutical / Life Sciences, and Retail, progressing up to Engagement Manager level or above.
- Successfully transitioned to the client side, ideally into a leading consumer environment (i.e., Telco, Consumer Electronics, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Pharmaceutical / Life Sciences, Retail).
- Extensive strategy development and strategic initiative implementation experiences, working across a large project portfolio and providing enterprise-wide solutions, preferably with solid and hands on experience in China.
- Previous leadership experience working in a heavily matrixed environment.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Outstanding strategic thinking, analysis, problem-solving, and storytelling capabilities.
- Strong business acumen with an end-to-end understanding of commercial and consumer dynamics across the SFP Category.
- Excellent influencing and stakeholder management skills, both internally and externally; ability to quickly establish herself/himself as a visible and engaged leader; aptitude to partner with and challenge senior executives.
- Preference for a hands-on approach with the ability to move swiftly from strategy to action and focus on what can be achieved concretely over a relatively short period of time.
- Robust project planning and implementation skills.
- Highly effective communication and collaboration skills across the organization.
- Pragmatic and with a positive “can-do” attitude.
