THE OPPORTUNITY
France is a complex external environment characterized by multiple public policy, fiscal, and societal dynamics. Within this context, the Director Scientific Engagement is responsible for coordinating and executing engagement activities that support informed stakeholder dialogue on smoke-free product categories and Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR).

 

As Director Scientific Engagement France you are responsible for:

  • Lead the integration of scientific, regulatory, and communication functions within PMI.
  • Serve as a key scientific and medical advisor to ensure scientific rigor and integrity in external communications.
  • Strengthen PMI’s reputation as a science-driven organization in the Tobacco Harm Reduction space.
  • Oversee the accuracy and consistency of scientific messaging across all geographies and communication channels.
  • Train and support PMI’s global Scientific Engagement community to effectively communicate the science behind Smoke-Free Products.

 

The role operates as a key point of coordination between internal functions and external stakeholders, with the objective of supporting a stable and predictable operating environment.

 

Key responsibilities include:

1. Scientific Communication & Engagement

  • Ensure scientific accuracy and consistency across all engagement assets (e.g., talking points, literature reviews, presentations).
  • Train global teams to communicate PMI’s scientific narrative effectively.
  • Maintain PMI’s voice in the external scientific debate.

 

2. Scientific Advice and Advocacy

  • Lead scientific advisory panels and focus groups at market, regional, and global levels.
  • Analyze the scientific landscape to identify strengths, weaknesses, and stakeholder perceptions.
  • Position PMI as a credible scientific voice in the Tobacco Harm Reduction debate.

 

3. Integration of Science into External Communications

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to embed science into communications with regulators, media, consumers, and investors.
  • Ensure timely and accurate scientific responses to external inquiries.

 

4. Strategic Scientific Initiatives

  • Develop tools and strategies to transform scientific data into actionable knowledge.
  • Own and evolve the IT strategy for scientific knowledge management and dissemination.

 

5. Building Scientific Engagement Capability

  • Design and implement a training program for Scientific Engagers.
  • Expand internal scientific literacy to support broader engagement in the Tobacco Harm Reduction narrative.

 

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • MSc in a scientific discipline required; PhD or MD preferred.

 

Experience:

  • 8–10 years in scientific stakeholder engagement within a regulated industry.
  • Proven ability to simplify and communicate complex science.
  • Experience engaging with regulatory, media, and senior stakeholders.
