The Maintenance Planner & Scheduler is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating all maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. This role serves as the facility expert for the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and plays a critical role in optimizing labor utilization, material availability, equipment reliability, and production uptime.
This position sits with our Swedish Match affiliate.
Your ‘day to day’
CMMS & Reporting

- Serve as the subject matter expert for the CMMS, driving effective use across all areas of the factory.
- Ensure the CMMS is maintained as a real-time operating system and supports accurate planning, execution, inventory control, and reporting.
- Lead continuous development and improvement of the CMMS, including workflows and data integrity.
- Generate or coordinate generation of all required maintenance, planning, and KPI reports.
Planning, Scheduling & Resource Management

- Develop daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance plans and schedules using the CMMS.
- Manage maintenance work order backlog to establish execution schedules aligned with production priorities, maintenance needs, and available resources.
- Plan and coordinate labor, materials, spare parts, tools, and equipment required to execute scheduled work.
- Coordinate main crafts, support crafts, off-shift work, and external resources for effective execution.
- Issue complete work order packages to Maintenance Supervisors to support efficient job execution.
- Maintain planning and scheduling action logs and routine reports.
Preventive, Predictive & Reliability Maintenance

- Build upon and continuously improve existing Preventive Maintenance (PM), Predictive Maintenance (PDM), and reliability programs.
- Ensure PM/PDM execution and compliance with established job standards.
- Monitor program performance through defined KPIs and drive continuous improvement to maximize asset reliability and uptime.
Standards, Analysis & Continuous Improvement

- Work with appropriate resources to develop, implement, and refine maintenance job standards.
- Review standards during job execution and update them for continuous improvement.
- Analyze labor, materials, and equipment usage to improve planning efficiency, cost control, and maintenance effectiveness.
- Apply Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement tools to address recurring issues.
Inventory & Spare Parts Management

- Manage spare parts within the CMMS, including new part setup, removal of obsolete parts, and verification of appropriate stocking levels.
- Ensure inventory replenishment supports production and maintenance requirements.
Contractor & Supplier Coordination

- Coordinate and manage maintenance contractors and suppliers to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work execution.
Collaboration & Leadership

- Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and other functions to prioritize and schedule work that maximizes product quality and production uptime while minimizing operational disruptions.
- Maintain knowledge of contractual obligations and conduct operations with appropriate regard for company and union relations.
- Provide Maintenance Supervisor relief as required, in accordance with associated job descriptions and operational needs.
Who we’re looking for:
Education
- High school diploma and vocational training or equivalent work experience required.
- Four-year technical or management degree preferred.
- Combination of technical/management education and training in modern maintenance philosophies and strategies is strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of factory mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of factory maintenance planning experience.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly develop in-depth knowledge of SM processes, CMMS, workflows, and maintenance procedures.
- Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong planning, scheduling, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work through others; capable of training, motivating, delegating, and monitoring performance.
- High attention to detail with the ability to understand interdependencies between departments and systems.
- Solid knowledge of machinery, troubleshooting, repair methods, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Understanding labor agreements as they relate to maintenance operations.
- Strong computer and CMMS proficiency required.
- Electrical background preferred.
- Proven experience using continuous improvement tools with demonstrated success.
Annual Base Salary Range: $ 66,400 - $83,000
