The Senior Manager Labor Relations plays a critical role in supporting company’s business growth by building and execution of the U.S. national Labor Relations strategy. This role is accountable for managing and enhancing the organization’s relationship with labor unions and ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and labor laws, as well as developing organizational capability in Labor Relations across the U.S., to foster a high-performance, employee-centric culture. This position serves as a strategic advisor to leadership and People & Culture partners on labor relations matters, including negotiations, grievance handling, and contract interpretation.

Your ‘day to day’:
Strategic Labor Relations Leadership

  • Develop and implement national labor relations strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with union representatives and labor counsel, fostering constructive and collaborative relationships.
  • Lead collective bargaining negotiations and contract renewals across multiple unions and locations, including strategy development, proposal drafting, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Support organizational change initiatives with a labor relations lens to mitigate risk and ensure alignment with union agreements.

Union & Employee Relations

  • Provide guidance and support to site Leadership and People & Culture teams on grievance handling, arbitration, and disciplinary actions.
  • Monitor and address labor trends, union activities, and employee sentiment, to identify risks and recommend proactive strategies.
  • Promote positive employee relations and proactive engagement strategies.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws (e.g., NLRA, FMLA, FLSA).
  • Conduct internal audits and investigations related to labor practices, resolve complex grievances and disciplinary matters in accordance with CBAs and legal requirements.
  • Mitigate labor-related risks through training, policy development, and early intervention.

Collaboration & Influence

  • Partner with business functions, Legal, and People & Culture leadership to align labor strategies with business goals.
  • Provide systemic training, coach and develop People & Culture and operational leaders on labor relations best practices and CBA’s application.
  • Represent the company in labor-related arbitration, mediation, and legal proceedings and regulatory matters.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Industrial Relations, or a related field (Master’s or JD preferred).
  • Minimum of 7- 10 years of progressive experience in labor relations, including direct experience with union negotiations and grievance handling, in a large-scale manufacturing environment in the U.S.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws, collective bargaining processes, and dispute resolution techniques.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and complex issues with discretion and professionalism.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% nationally.

What’s ‘nice to have:

  • Experience in the CPG industry or similar fast-paced, high-volume environments.
  • Certification in Labor Relations or HR (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR).
  • Experience with HRIS and case management systems.
  • Bilingual or multilingual capabilities (if relevant to workforce).
