The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating maintenance personnel and activities during the assigned shift to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant equipment. This role provides leadership to maintenance crafts, ensures scheduled and unscheduled maintenance work is completed effectively, and maintains compliance with company policies, safety standards, and union agreements.

 This position sits with our Swedish Match affiliate.

 

Your ‘day to day’

 

    • Supervise and monitor the job performance of general maintenance equipment mechanics, systems mechanics, machinists, general helpers, painters, and oilers assigned to the shift.
    • Maintain accurate timekeeping and attendance records for all assigned personnel.
    • Work closely with the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler to ensure effective utilization of maintenance crafts and proper equipment availability.
    • Ensure all scheduled maintenance work for the shift is assigned, completed, and inspected for quality and completeness.
    • Coordinate and communicate maintenance schedules, priorities, and job status with supervisors on other shifts and with the Plant Maintenance Manager.
    • Train newly assigned maintenance employees on job requirements and provide ongoing coaching and skill development for all assigned personnel.
    • Maintain clear and timely communication with the Maintenance Manager and department managers regarding equipment status, performance issues, and maintenance needs.
    • Develop and implement innovative solutions and contingency plans to ensure optimal equipment availability and minimize downtime.
    • Study, understand, and apply the Union Labor Agreement in day-to-day supervisory activities.
    • Manage personnel and maintenance activities in accordance with corporate policies and procedures.
    • Serve as Step 1 in the grievance process as defined by the labor agreement.
    • Foster a team-oriented work environment and work collaboratively with team members to resolve personnel, safety, or equipment-related issues.
    • Establish, promote, and enforce safe work habits and practices for all maintenance employees.

 

Who we’re looking for:

 

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Background or coursework in engineering is preferred.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of maintenance experience required.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

 

Skills & Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of general maintenance practices, including mechanical repair, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise and direct maintenance personnel effectively.
  • Basic understanding of industrial equipment and maintenance processes.
  • Ability to learn plant equipment and systems

 

Annual Base Salary Range: $ 88,000 - $110,000
