This position sits with our Swedish Match affiliate.

 

The Assistant Manufacturing Department Manager will provide assistance to the Department Manager in all manufacturing processes and procedures.

 

Your ‘day to day’

 

    • Analyze areas of responsibility and provide recommendations for improvement.
    • Assist in directing, motivating, and coordinating the activities of assigned employees.
    • Support oversight of production operations to identify and address equipment or process issues.
    • Maintain accurate production records and clerical activities within production management systems.
    • Assist in training new employees on production procedures, safety standards, and plant equipment.
    • Enforce company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Support the Production Manager in monitoring daily shift operations and reporting any issues or concerns.
    • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
    • Assist in overseeing production quality to ensure high standards and finished product excellence.
    • Communicate regularly with maintenance teams regarding equipment repairs and maintenance needs.
    • Learn and follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) required for departmental operations.
    • Assist in the development and revision of SOPs as needed.
    • Develop and apply knowledge of union contracts, ensuring operations are conducted in compliance with labor agreements.
    • Assist in Step 1 of the grievance process within the department.
    • Provide leadership and independently manage department operations as needed to cover staffing gaps.

 

Who we’re looking for:

 

    • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
    • Previous manufacturing and/or packaging experience preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple operations simultaneously while effectively collaborating with individuals at all levels of the organization.
    • Proven ability to supervise a large group of hourly, union employees, with a strong understanding of labor agreements and their application within the assigned area.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute activities and projects within established timelines.
    • Ability to lead, supervise, and take decisive action to achieve company and departmental goals.
    • Must be flexible and available to be assigned to any shift (1st, 2nd, or 3rd)

 

Annual Base Salary Range: $66,400 - $83,000
