About the team
You will join the Open Innovation team, which leverages external innovation, emerging technologies and solutions to address internal challenges and support next-generation smoke-free products. The team connects PMI with external partners and ensures efficient, secure collaboration.
Internship Roles & Objectives
As an Open Innovation Intern, you will support the prototyping, testing and technical evaluation of emerging electronic technologies for early-stage smoke-free product concepts. Using data analytics, data processing and embedded programming, you will assess technologies against proof-of-feasibility criteria. You will work in a dynamic environment focused on experimentation, rapid iteration and real-world impact, requiring independence, critical thinking, problem-solving and effective stakeholder communication.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a curious, creative and technically strong student who:
- Is enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, Data Science, Electronics, Physics, Engineering or a related field.
- Available from February 2027 to August 2027.
- Has strong Python skills and experience with scikit-learn, pandas and NumPy.
- Is familiar with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Has knowledge of embedded programming, including RTOS, Git, I2C, SPI and STM32.
- Can evaluate electronic components using datasheets, evaluation boards and structured testing.
- Can develop data analytics pipelines and generate insights using statistical and machine learning methods.
- Has a passion for learning, experimentation and problem-solving.
- Demonstrates independence, critical thinking and the ability to solve complex challenges.
- Communicates effectively and collaborates with internal and external teams to prototype and validate solutions supporting the product roadmap.
