Laboratory Scientist Internship - Analytical Chemistry

Duration: 6 months | Start date: Mid-February 2027

Be part of a revolutionary change

PMI is transforming its business to deliver a smoke-free future. This internship is an opportunity to begin your career in a global organisation, bring a fresh perspective and contribute to meaningful scientific work.

About the team

Sciences & Technologies (S&T), part of PMI's global R&D organisation, advances scientific knowledge and technologies supporting innovation. Our analytical laboratories generate reliable data to characterise products and materials.

Role and objectives

You will train on routine ICP-MS methods before merging and optimising two existing methods for elemental analysis. You will plan and perform experiments, evaluate method performance, process and interpret data, and implement automated dilution on the autosampler.

Your objective will be to deliver a robust, efficient combined ICP-MS method with an operational automated-dilution workflow. You will document the study, results and conclusions in a scientific report and communicate progress and potential issues to the team.

Who we're looking for

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry or a related scientific field.
  • Familiar with analytical chemistry, sample preparation and laboratory techniques.
  • Exposure to analytical instrumentation; ICP-MS or mass-spectrometry experience is an advantage.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety, quality, accurate documentation and data integrity.
  • Comfortable working with data and standard digital tools.
  • Able to prioritise, solve problems methodically and work with increasing independence.
  • Collaborative, curious and hands-on, with effective communication skills in French; English is an advantage.

What we offer

  • Practical laboratory experience and opportunities to develop new skills.
  • Exposure to a real scientific project with meaningful deliverables.
  • Mentoring and collaboration with experienced professionals.
  • A supportive environment that respects academic commitments.
  • An inclusive culture where contributions are valued and you can experiment, explore and develop your career.
