The role 

This role is about shaping PM Australia’s approach to public policy and regulation. You’ll lead the development and execution of strategies that influence policy outcomes, provide expert guidance on complex legislation, and ensure the business is well-positioned in a highly regulated environment. It’s an opportunity to drive meaningful change and align our work with broader societal goals. 

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Shape and drive PM Australia’s public policy and regulatory strategy. You’ll play a key role in crafting the approach and ensuring it’s executed effectively to support our business objective
  • Be the go-to advisor on legislation and regulations. From therapeutic goods and health and wellness to fiscal policy and law enforcement, you’ll interpret complex rules and translate them into clear guidance for the business.
  • Lead impactful advocacy and engagement efforts. Build strong relationships and influence outcomes with government bodies, regulators, policy influencers, and trade partners to advance our priorities. 

  • Be a trusted subject matter expert. Provide deep expertise on public policy, regulatory affairs, and tobacco harm reduction, helping shape internal and external perspectives. 

  • Stay ahead of policy developments. Monitor changes, analyse implications, and deliver strategic advice that keeps our teams informed and ready to act. 

  • Champion sustainability. Lead PM Australia’s Sustainability Program, aligning with our global ESG strategy and making a tangible impact on our environmental and social commitments. 

 

We’re looking for someone who has:  

  • A proven track record in public policy analysis and preparing impactful submissions  

  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills that align with business and societal goals.  

  • Deep understanding of Australian political processes and the public policy landscape.  

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with experience in advocacy, research, and analysis.  

  • A background in law and/or economics will be highly regarded.
