Be a part of a revolutionary change
At PMI, we’ve chosen to do something incredible. We’re totally transforming our business and building our future on one clear purpose – to deliver a smoke-free future.
With huge change, comes huge opportunity. So, wherever you join us, you’ll enjoy the freedom to dream up and deliver better, brighter solutions and the space to move your career forward in endlessly different directions.
We are looking for a Senior Manager Scientific Communications, who will own the company's external scientific expression: narrative frameworks, templates, tone, and tangible materials people use (slides, speeches, talk tracks), ensuring the organization speaks in one coherent, credible, and compelling voice.
This role bridges internal scientific rigor and external understanding. Leverages agency and extended team for production volume while retaining internal ownership of quality, consistency, and strategic alignment.
With this function in place, teams and markets are equipped with consistent, high-quality materials, ensuring a unified tone. The company presents a clear, cohesive external voice, and communications remain closely aligned with the science—making complex information accurate, credible, and easy to understand.
Role Responsibilities
-
Translate approved positions and strategic narratives into clear, structured frameworks—such as audience-specific message houses, platform-tailored story arcs, and sequencing logic—to ensure messages land effectively. These frameworks form the foundation of all external scientific communications.
-
Develop and maintain external-facing templates, along with defined tone, voice, and communication standards, to ensure consistency across all outputs. Retain ownership of these standards within the central function to avoid fragmentation across teams.
-
Oversee the development of high-quality engagement materials (e.g. speeches, talk tracks, slide decks, and speaker briefs) through agencies and extended teams, ensuring alignment with strategy and adherence to scientific accuracy within defined governance. Manage the asset library and production pipeline.
-
Tailor communications to specific platforms and audiences, ensuring materials are contextually relevant and fit-for-purpose—while maintaining a consistent overarching narrative across all channels.
-
Provide oversight and governance of scientific engagement content produced across markets and teams, ensuring alignment with approved frameworks and standards. Maintain quality control, version management, and guidance to preserve a consistent and credible external scientific voice at scale.
We are looking for someone with:
-
Significant experience in scientific, medical, or highly technical communications, ideally within a complex or regulated environment (e.g. pharma, biotech, healthcare, or similar).
-
A proven ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, compelling, and credible external narratives for a range of audiences.
-
Strong experience developing strategic messaging frameworks (e.g. message houses, narrative structures) and ensuring consistent application across channels and markets.
-
Demonstrated expertise in executive communications, including developing speeches, presentations, and briefing materials for senior leaders.
-
Experience working with and managing agencies or external partners, while maintaining ownership of quality, consistency, and strategic alignment.
-
A track record of establishing and governing communication standards (tone, voice, templates) across global or multi-market organizations.
-
Strong understanding of operating within governance frameworks, with the ability to balance scientific accuracy and communication clarity.
-
Experience working in global, matrix environments, influencing stakeholders and driving alignment across functions and regions.
-
A strategic, structured thinker with excellent attention to detail and a passion for high-quality communication.
-
Confidence working with senior stakeholders, with the ability to advise and influence at leadership level.
Experience & Education
-
Extensive experience in communications, with a strong focus on scientific or technical content.
-
A degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a Scientific discipline (e.g. Life Sciences, Biology, Chemistry) or equivalent.
-
A combination of scientific background and communications expertise is strongly preferred.
-
A postgraduate qualification (e.g. MSc, PhD, MBA, or Master’s in Communications) is advantageous.
