The Market Safety, Security & Risk Management Intern forms part of PMI South Africa’s Early Careers Programme and is designed to provide hands-on exposure across commercial security, supply chain security, investigations, risk assessments, security operations, incident management, and business protection.

Duration: 12-Month Internship Programme

What You’ll Gain

- Hands-on experience supporting security risk assessments, investigations, audits, and incident management activities

What You’ll Be Doing
Throughout the programme, you’ll gain practical exposure across multiple areas within Safety, Security, Investigations, and Risk Management.
Security Risk Management & Operations
- Support the S&MS team in monitoring and reporting threats to personnel, assets, information, and business operations
- Assist with security risk assessments across sites, transport routes, operational activities, and company events
- Support implementation and review of security policies, procedures, and standards
- Assist with monitoring security operations including access control, visitor management, CCTV systems, alarm monitoring, key control, and incident reporting processes
- Support compliance reviews and routine security audits across business locations
Investigations & Incident Management
- Assist with investigations relating to theft, losses, procedural breaches, security incidents, misconduct matters, and fleet-related incidents
- Support evidence collection, documentation management, incident logging, and fact-finding activities
- Assist with root cause analysis, lessons learned exercises, and corrective action tracking
- Support incident response activities and help ensure accurate reporting and follow-up actions
Supply Chain & Commercial Security
- Support security initiatives across warehouses, distribution activities, transport routes, commercial operations, and third-party locations
- Assist with monitoring third-party security provider performance and compliance with agreed standards
- Support site assessments and security reviews aimed at reducing operational risk
- Assist with tracking security improvement initiatives and mitigation plans
Event Security & Business Protection
- Support planning and coordination of security arrangements for company events, meetings, and business activities
- Assist with event-related risk assessments and contingency planning
- Support coordination of security resources and escalation processes where required
- Contribute to initiatives that promote employee safety and business resilience
Reporting, Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Support preparation of security reports, KPI tracking, trend analysis, and management updates
- Assist with maintaining incident records and mandatory reporting systems
- Support security awareness campaigns, employee training, and communication initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects, standardisation initiatives, and implementation of new security controls

Minimum Requirements
- Completed National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Criminology, Forensic Investigation, Law, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Public Administration, or a related field
- Maximum of 2 years working experience
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Must be available to start immediately
- Ability to commit to a full-time 12-month internship programme
Advantageous
- Honours or Master’s Degree
- Previous exposure to security, compliance, investigations, auditing, risk management, logistics, or operational environments
- Exposure to reporting, analytics, incident management, or governance-related projects
- Participation in student leadership, community safety initiatives, or risk-related projects
