The IBP Intern – Supply Chain Analytics & Automation forms part of PMI South Africa’s Early Careers / Internship Programme and is designed to provide hands-on exposure to Integrated Business Planning, supply chain analytics, forecasting, automation, and performance management within a multinational FMCG environment.

This role supports the IBP and Supply Chain teams by developing data-driven, automated, and AI-enabled solutions that improve forecasting accuracy, planning visibility, critical metric reporting, and business decision-making.

 

Programme Details

Position: IBP Intern – Supply Chain Analytics & Automation

Duration: 12-Month Internship Programme

Location: Cape Town or Johannesburg, South Africa

Start Date: Immediate

Eligibility: Open to South African citizens only

Stipend: Monthly stipend offered

What You’ll Be Doing

Throughout the programme, you’ll gain practical exposure across multiple areas within IBP, Supply Chain Analytics, and Automation, including:

 

IBP & Supply Chain Support

  • Support the IBP cycle through data preparation, validation, and analysis of demand, supply, and inventory inputs
  • Assist in analysing forecast accuracy, bias, SFA, service levels, LOGD / LOMD, and inventory important metrics
  • Support risk and opportunity analysis, scenario modelling, and gap-closing initiatives
  • Assist with consolidating inputs from Commercial, Finance, and Supply Chain teams into IBP-ready reporting views

 

Automation & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain automation solutions to reduce manual reporting and planning activities
  • Build scripts, workflows, or automated processes for:
  • Forecast data processing
  • critical metric calculations and reporting refreshes
  • Data validation and reconciliation
  • Support touchless and statistical forecasting initiatives
  • Assist with development and improvement of Power BI dashboards for integrated business planning and logistics visibility

 

AI & Advanced Analytics

  • Apply AI and analytics concepts to forecast improvement and demand pattern identification
  • Support outlier detection, exception analysis, and predictive analytics initiatives
  • Contribute to proof-of-concept projects focused on planning automation and advanced analytics
  • Translate business questions into structured analytical and automation solutions

 

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Document processes, automation logic, analytical outputs, and workflows
  • Support IBP process improvement initiatives and maturity assessments
  • Assist with testing, deployment, and continuous improvement of digital and analytical solutions

Minimum Requirements

  • Completed Degree or National Diploma in Data Science, Industrial / Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain / Operations Management, Applied Mathematics / Statistics, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Maximum of 2 years working experience
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Must be available to start immediately
  • Ability to commit to a full-time 12-month internship programme

 

Advantageous

  • Honours or Master’s Degree
  • Exposure to analytics, reporting, automation, or data-processing projects
  • Previous internship or project experience within Supply Chain, Planning, Analytics, or Business Intelligence environments

 

Skills & Behavioural Capabilities

Technical Skills

  • Python (preferred) or similar programming language for data processing and automation
  • Basic SQL or data querying capability
  • Exposure to automation tools such as Power Automate, APIs, scripting, or macros
  • Understanding of forecasting, time-series analysis, or statistical concepts is advantageous
  • Experience with Power BI or other Business Intelligence tools is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with SAP, planning systems, or large datasets is advantageous

 

Supply Chain & Business Skills

  • Strong interest in Supply Chain, IBP, Demand Planning, or S&OP
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and evolving business requirements
  • Clear communication skills and ability to translate data into meaningful insights
  • High attention to detail and strong focus on data quality
