Purpose
As a Manager Government Relations, you will act as a strategic expert on the political and regulatory landscape within your market. You will develop and execute engagement strategies aligned with business objectives and External Affairs priorities.
Through direct interaction with government institutions, regulators, and key stakeholders, you will actively advocate for PMI’s positions and contribute to shaping public policy in line with the company’s Smoke-Free Vision.
You will build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers, NGOs, industry associations, and consultants, creating impactful narratives grounded in evidence and business priorities. Leveraging internal expertise and cross-functional collaboration, you will support local, regional, and global regulatory and fiscal strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement government engagement strategies aligned with business goals
- Build and manage relationships with government officials, regulators, and key stakeholders
- Monitor political, legislative, and regulatory developments and assess business impact
- Support advocacy efforts and contribute to public policy positioning
- Collaborate with internal teams (Legal, Communications, Marketing, etc.) to ensure alignment
- Drive stakeholder engagement initiatives and create compelling, evidence-based narratives
Requirements (Education & Experience)
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Law, Finance, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, or regulatory environments
- Proven experience engaging with government institutions and regulatory authorities
- Experience in highly regulated industries (e.g., tobacco, pharma, energy, alcohol, chemicals, construction) is a strong advantage
Additionally, one or more of the following is preferred:
- Experience in government roles (elected or appointed) with strong political network
- Background as a senior civil servant or government consultant
- Experience within PMI or similar multinational organizations
