Role Overview

The External Communication Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans in French and Dutch, that aim to enhance PMI's corporate reputation, facilitate societal acceptance of smokefree products, and support political/ regulatory change. The goal is to maintain focus on long-term goals while also keeping an eye out for unexpected opportunities and flexibly adjusts plans as needed.

The External Communication Manager drives multiple campaigns in parallel across earned, owned, and paid media, leveraging a can-do attitude, entrepreneurial mindset, and strong project management skills to do so successfully. This role requires effective communication and natural engagement with a variety of internal and external partners. A self-starter who thrives in a high-paced environment, enjoys setting the bar high, and intuitively seeks to do better every day, in a broader context of professionalizing the function.
                                                                                         

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, deploy and manage integrated communications plans that support PMI’s business goals, in close alignment with the headquarters' and region's communication priorities and guidelines.
  • Actively grow and manage a strong network of journalists and external media partners, to create a continuous flow of media opportunities in both Dutch and French-speaking media.
  • Plan and develop integrated digital campaigns that create meaningful impact through creative storytelling, innovative content and strong visual assets. Develop and drive employee and stakeholder advocacy programs to optimize content amplification and grow engagement.
  • Actively manage a strong network of paid media partners, to identify the most relevant paid media opportunities (in both Dutch and French) in mainstream, trade and niche media.
  • Ensure consistent measurement (quantitative and qualitative) of both the impact of all communication activities against the set objectives and KPIs, as well as the efficiency of communication processes and performance of communication platforms/ tools. Manage timely analysis and reporting and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Core Competencies and requirements

  • Master in communication, Marketing or Public Relations
  • Seasoned professional with minimum 5 -10 years’ experience in journalism or communications.
  • Media experience and strong journalist network is a must.
  • Experience in communicating in highly regulated industry/market, as well as experience with governmental bodies and/ or EU institutions is an advantage.
  • Deep insights and extensive contacts in the media industry
  • A bright mind with strong business acumen and a knack for strategic execution
  • Ability to quickly translate complex topics into compelling narratives and convincing campaigns
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and manage multiple projects, often on short deadlines and under pressure
  • Creative insight and digital savviness are a plus
  • Fluent in Dutch, French and English
