Job Title: Sustainability Engineer

Purpose: Develop and deploy the environment, health, and safety (EHS) systems and programs aligned with business needs and legal requirements. Continually improve these systems based on benchmarks, audit results, incident investigations, and business changes. Act as a professional reference for sustainability, planning, executing, and monitoring EHS activities to ensure the factory's capability deployment and risk reduction.

Accountabilities:

  • Sustainability:

    • Assist in developing autonomous teams according to EHS Pillar capabilities.
    • Contribute to the sustainability strategy definition for the factory.
    • Act as a role model for safety and sustainability with a Learn-Do-Teach approach.
    • Implement department and EHS Pillar plans and activities.
    • Provide advice and coaching to managers and supervisors to engage employees in sustainability policies and procedures.
    • Raise awareness to drive the organization towards zero sustainability incidents.
    • Lead local project teams and act as the key contact between global product owners and affiliates.
  • Quality:

    • Develop and implement tools/systems for contractors to drive them towards zero sustainability incidents.
    • Coordinate programs to reduce waste and emissions and minimize energy and natural resource use.
    • Monitor and analyze current usage and outputs to achieve environmental key performance indicators.
    • Support sustainability projects and identify needs, weaknesses, and emerging issues.
    • Participate in budget exercises to address legal gaps, non-compliances, and sustainability improvement needs.
  • Delivery:

    • Develop, implement, and monitor the sustainability management system and EHS Pillar.
    • Execute a proactive loss prevention program, including risk management, inspections, audits, and emergency planning.
    • Ensure procedures are appropriate to the factory's risk profile and continually improved.
    • Monitor the technical certification of new equipment to eliminate or reduce risks.
    • Participate in sustainability projects, ensuring integration of sustainability requirements in new and revamped facilities.
  • Cost:

    • Stay updated on the latest safety, occupational health, and environmental regulatory requirements and technologies.
    • Ensure contractor compliance with sustainability legal and company requirements.
    • Collaborate with medical professionals to address workplace health issues.
    • Serve as the professional reference for PPE and working tool selection.
  • Morale:

    • Coordinate accident investigations according to Sustainability Incident Management (SIM) protocols.
    • Maintain records of all incident/accident information to identify causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Training:

    • Develop and implement sustainability training modules and EHS Pillar tools/systems.
    • Maintain training records for employees, contractors, and visitors.
    • Provide timely reporting of sustainability/EHS Pillar performance indicators.
  • Emergency Preparedness:

    • Implement and test emergency preparedness programs to minimize losses due to incidents.
  • Best Practices:

    • Recognize and replicate best practices to prevent injuries, minimize environmental damage, and reduce business impact from foreseeable losses.
    • Ensure consistent communication and replication of sustainability initiatives
    • Education:

      • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering/Science or a technical high school diploma, preferably in environmental, sustainability, safety engineering, or equivalent education.
      • Adequate qualification in Sustainability (EHS) in accordance with local legal requirements.
    • Work Experience:

      • Overall experience: 1-5 years in a manufacturing environment as a specialist in EHS.
      • Specific experience: Implementation and sustainment of legal requirements and applicable standards such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001.
    • Language Skills:

      • Fluent in the local language.
      • Intermediate and above proficiency in English.
    • Functional Skills:

      • Advanced knowledge in Risk Assessment.
      • Ability to implement and sustain ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001.
      • Knowledge of LOTO and Machinery Safety (legal and BIC solutions).
      • Strong problem-solving, investigation, and analytical thinking skills.
      • Basic project management skills.
      • AWS and Carbon Neutrality knowledge is a plus
